I normally don’t get a case of the Sunday Scaries. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the term, the "Sunday Scaries" is a feeling of anxiety or dread on Sunday evenings, often caused by anticipating the work-week ahead. However, after being out of the office for 2 weeks, the Sunday Scaries have entered the chat today. I am both anxious and excited to officially kick off the 2025 work year.
The start to 2025 has been very slow and mellow, which is always wonderful. I found time to sit down and reflect on the accomplishments, lessons, and favorite memories of 2024. I was also able to map out my Bingo for 2025. Last year, my sister gave me the wonderful idea (thanks to TikTok) of creating your own “Bingo Board” to map out the goals you want to tackle that year. Having a visual representation of your goals and outlining them as a game makes tackling them less daunting and also makes accomplishing them fun!
For this year, I wrote down the following goals that anyone can try and conquer:
- Visit a National Park
- Go to a concert (for me this will be Coldplay, which has been on my list for a long time)
- Go wine tasting
- Have a no-phone day (I had this one in last year’s Bingo and I wasn’t able to accomplish it)
- Have a solo date and try a new restaurant
- Host a game night (this one was also a repeat from last year since I didn’t do it)
- Go to a spa and get a massage
- Volunteer
- Take a salsa lesson
Having my New Year’s resolutions visually displayed throughout the past year has made setting and achieving goals a much more enjoyable experience!
In regards to how I plan to break my Sunday Scaries today, I will be doing the following:
- Going to dinner with my family; my parents fly back to Panama tomorrow and tonight is our last night together
- Take a nice warm shower
- Light candles
- Listen to John Mayer and Vance Joy (my go to artists when I need a little pick me up)
- Read before going to bed. I am back on physical books and I just started “The Perfect Marriage” by Jeneva Rose. My lovely neighbor lent it to me, so it motivates me even more to read it so I can give it back to her.
- Aim to go to bed early. This will be my biggest challenge since during my time off I have been going to bed later than usual, since I was watching a TV show with my family (currently watching “The Black Doves” on Netflix).
Happy 2025, I hope this year is filled with growth, love, opportunities, and beautiful memories.
With love,
Sylvi
